The healthcare business in Saudi Arabia is rapidly changing; thus, healthcare workers require the greatest possible training. We in Nursing Solutions Company (NSC) believe that the future of Saudi Arabia’s healthcare system is dependent on how well-trained, reliable, and globally linked its workforce is. This article explores the importance of improving the Saudi healthcare workforce through accredited training programs to tackle current challenges and achieve Vision 2030’s major goals.
The Current State of Healthcare in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s healthcare system is undergoing substantial changes as the population grows, individuals live longer lives, and chronic diseases become more prevalent. The Vision 2030 places healthcare at the forefront of the country’s growth priorities. It aims to improve the accessibility and quality of care. However, the healthcare workforce has not kept up with the expanding demand; therefore, there is a great deal of reliance on foreign workers, particularly in nursing. This reliance risks the long-term stability and quality of healthcare services.

Several factors make it difficult for Saudi Arabia to have a strong healthcare workforce:
1. A high reliance on foreigners: Approximately two-thirds of the country’s healthcare workers are from other countries. This dependency exposes job security and knowledge retention.
2. Skill Gap and Education-Employment Mismatch: Many health sciences graduates lack the necessary skills for employment, making the transition from college to work time-consuming and expensive.
3. Various Levels of Training Quality: Healthcare staff have varying levels of competence since training providers do not always adhere to the same standards.
4. Workforce Allocation and Turnover: The majority of Saudi nationals work in public primary care, whereas most expats work in the commercial sector or in specialized professions. High turnover worsens workforce shortages.

Accredited training is a proper solution to cope with these issues. It has several benefits since it ensures that training programs comply with high-quality standards.

4. Keeping the economy strong: Investing in accredited training reduces waste and ensures that educational endeavors produce skilled workers, so keeping the system’s finances steady.
5. Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships: A credible certification system facilitates collaboration between the public and private sectors in the workforce development process.
Suggestions for Action
The NSC recommends the following policies to maximize the effectiveness of accredited training:
– Encourage greater collaboration between training institutions and healthcare providers to ensure that training meets industry requirements.
– Require residency and internship programs to be accredited so that fresh graduates can gain real-world experience.
– Use government grants to encourage the workforce to enroll in accredited programs and help mid-career professionals gain new skills.
– Collaborate with international accreditation and certification organizations, such as the American Accreditation Association (AAA), to increase the global recognition of training credentials.
– Invest in workforce planning and data systems to identify gaps and evaluate training program performance.

Accredited training is not only a legal requirement, but it is also a vital opportunity for Saudi healthcare workers to improve their skills and the quality of their job. Saudi Arabia can build a strong, self-sufficient healthcare system capable of providing high-quality care by addressing existing issues and working toward Vision 2030 objectives.
